A total of 10,936 delegates are expected to cast their votes during the National Youth and Women Conference as well as the National Delegates Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on December 10 and 17 respectively.

Out of the figure, 1,086 delegates are expected to cast their votes to elect a National Youth Organiser while 886 delegates would do same to elect the National Women’s Organiser to be held at the University of Cape Coast.

Meanwhile, for the National Delegates Congress to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium, a total number of 8,964 delegates will be expected to vote in order to elect leaders for the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

These were announced by Director of International Relations and the Head of the National Congress Planning Committee of the Party, Mr Alex Segbefia at its Headquarters in Accra yesterday.

According to Mr Segbefia, the decision to hold the National Delegate Congress at the Accra Sports Stadium was due to the numbers involved.

He noted that the Grounds and Accommodation Committee had laid down plans to ensure a smooth and successful Congress which include a Congress Delegate Village which is being established at the University of Ghana (UG), Legon.

The purpose of the establishment of the Congress Delegate Village, Mr Segbefia said was to accommodate and transport delegates from the Village to the Accra Sports Stadium on time to prevent issues of delay.

Mr Segbefia said the Planning Committee intend to set up seventeen Polling stations to cater for sixteen regions in order to allow for simultaneously voting and reduce the number of hours spent.

He also urged media houses who intend to cover the Congress and Conference to get in touch with the communication team of the Party for accreditation as media houses who would make their way to the venue without accreditation would not be allowed to provide coverage.

Additionally, Mr Segbefia said “the Party’s Communication team will provide a centralised Television and Video feed of the Congress and this will be made available to all television and radio stations. But stations will be allowed to set their own onsite studios and run live programmes as well because we want this to be open and transparent on the day.”

He further assured of delegates of their safety during the Congress and Conference as security personnel would be deployed both at the venue and the Congress Delegate Village to ensure law and order.

A delegate list, Mr Segbefia indicated had been sent by the Party and therefore entreated all delegates, including aspirants to carefully scrutinise it in order to rectify any issue before the day of the Congress and Conference.

“We want our delegate to be rest assured that a delegate list has gone out. There is nothing like a perfect list, so please scrutinise it. If there are issues you have with the delegate list, especially, for the aspirants, make it known as soon as possible”, MrSegbefia said.
